Like the night before thanksgiving to reunite with friends before family, Galentines day is the unofficial prelude to the biggest love day of the year. Girls gather around the world to share drinks and chocolates and celebrate their love for eachother, the powerful bond of friendship that goes beyond the power of a significant other. It seems like the perfect opportunity to invite beautiful people out for a night of music, cake, photo booths, and the chance to win a date!

rlyblonde hosted the galentines day party of the year at Berlin Under A last Tuesday, with the added bonus of celebrating the 1 year anniversary of her single “Fantasy” (also the title track of her debut EP). Adorned in pink angel wings and a fuzzy halo, rlyblonde bounces from friend to fan, cheery and bright eyed, graciously thanking everyone for coming.

Opening the night was pop/soul artist, Ella Galvin, delivering lush vocals under gentle and groovy beats. Her mashup of “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star and “Lover” by Taylor Swift was a surprising and seamless twist. Following Galvin was pop rock group, Spicy Dreams, comprising of unique mix of funk, disco and rock. They were practically made for an evening like this one, as their debut album “You Me You Us” is coated in themes of desire, lust and romantic ecstasy.

Between sets, friends of the artist are interviewed about their ideal vacation, their worst first date story, etc. A photo booth is set up in the back of the club and everyone who visits the photo booth is eligible to put their name into a bag for a random drawing to win a date with her two most eligible friends.

Rlyblonde gave a stellar performance, playing through the Fantasy EP and some stand-alone singles. She also included some timeless covers, such as “All the Small Things” by Blink 182 and “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood. The highlight of the set was Hot Girls Always Win, the second to last track from the ‘Fantasy’ EP. Rlyblonde has merch to match the pop anthem - with baby tees in pink and white with the words “hot girls always win” written in barbie pink lettering across the front. Multiple fans were spotted that night already wearing the tees proudly, and screaming the words back at the singer with their whole hearts (and shirts). Friends and fans danced around the room cheerfully to each song, while rlyblonde masterfully switched between guitarist, vocalist, emcee, and all around incredible hostess. Her music is relatable and catchy with an early 2000s-2010 inspiration, reminiscent of artists such as Avril Lavigne and Marina and the Diamonds.

Highly suggest grabbing yourself a “hot girls always win” tee and streaming the three artists from the evening. It was a Valentine’s Day soiree for the books - with all of their unique sounds and matchmaking between sets, it’s true you can find both new love and new music in the same bar.
